Minimix 17 – In the Sky

I named this mix ‘In the Sky’ because this is how I feel now that I’m 100% sure I’m gonna get my MBA degree. Results were released just last week, finally ending that 2 week anxiety period after the comprehensive exams. I know I was only 50% prepared for the test as I applied the Pareto Principle in my review method. Unfortunately, the 80% I didn’t prepare for appeared in the exams especially in the Finance test.

But whatever, it’s done now and I will be marching this June. I’m thankful that this phase of my life is over. And in just a few weeks I’m on to my next one. ūüėČ

Per usual, here’s the tracklist of the songs I used in this mix:

  1. Lxury: J.A.W.S.
  2. Modjo: Lady (Sllash Remix)
  3. Disclosure: When a Fire Starts to Burn
  4. Detroit Swindle’s Basement Dub: Please Don’t Dance
  5. Moony: Dove

Minimix 16 – Summersun

Long weekend always means time to work on stuff I don’t get to normally do on a weekday. Aside from reading, mixing has been one of my stress-relievers – it’s a good avenue to be both creative and calculative. I’m glad I found have this outlet, especially now that school is over and I have all this energy to spare.

To help add more variety to my mixes, I’ve been researching those songs that were normally played in noontime variety shows back when I was in grade school – those songs that are¬†ridiculously LSS-worthy to the point that it’s actually annoying. So far, I’ve found a handful¬†and have used it here in this latest mix, particularly track #4. I’m pretty sure you know this song once you hear its repetitive hook. To be honest, if this song was released this day, it would definitely be part of my “On Repeat” playlist.

Anyway, here’s the tracklist:

  1. Fouk: Coconuts
  2. Panama: Always (Classixx Remix)
  3. Unknown Artist: You Got the Funk
  4. The Bucketheads: The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)
  5. Chesus: Special (HNNY Edit)

Minimix 15 – Freedom Dance

My MBA is done. I can’t believe I’ve reached this point wherein I’m going to have all the time after office to do whatever I want. The feeling’s so liberating¬†yet at the same time overwhelming because I’ve been pretty much used to spending almost half of my life going to school and working on academic¬†stuff.

Don’t get me wrong – I love this feeling (which actually inspired me¬†to work on this mix). I treasure my time much more than money, and I’ve got waaaay too much stuff on my mind that I’ve been wanting to do. I feel there won’t be any “lag time” for me as I’ve been itching to tick off all these things in my mental checklist.

Anyway, here’s the fruit of my newfound freedom. Got the chance to work on it the moment I felt like waking up from my 5hr (!!!) nap. Here’s the tracklist:

  1. Come Back Baby: Flush
  2. Golden Wings: Bag Raiders
  3. Disclosure: Bang That
  4. Paul Johnson: Get Down
  5. Charles B & Adonis: Lack of Love

Minimix 14 – Deep Disco Nights

I feel like I’ve finally found my music mix “flavor” the past days as I’ve been combining a whole lot of early 90s disco music with some of the electro/synth/technopop songs that are staples in my iPod.

The whole process of beat- and key-matching is actually very therapeutic. I get to be both creative and calculative at the same time which, I feel, is a perfect balance of my personality. It’s a great avenue to destress/detoxify from my day job and night class. Minsan kailangan rin magpahinga ni Curacha, noh.¬†HAHA.

Anyway, here’s the tracklist:

  1. My Love: Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne
  2. Picture Picture: Sharam Jay & Sirius Hood
  3. Liquid Spirit (Claptone Remix): Gregory Porter
  4. Drumatic: Purple Disco Machine
  5. Show Me Love: Robin S

Minimix 13 – Wordless

Feels like forever since I last worked on a mix. And just like that, 16% of the year is done. I’ve been preoccupied with my full time job as we’re undergoing a transition coming from a global buyout.

All I can say is that I have nothing else to say with all the rapid changes happening around me. Hence the title of this mix. I’m just happily gliding and dancing my way through ~lyf~, taking things¬†one giddy step at a time. I’m glad I’ve got music to keep me intact and focused during office hours.¬†The songs in this mix are just some of the stuff I’ve been listening to nonstop.

Tracks featured are as follows:

  1. The Crush: La Royale
  2. Omeo: Darius
  3. Sunsplash: Luke Million
  4. Unfinished Business: Detroit Swindle
  5. Lite Spots: Kaytranada

Minimix 09 – San Junipero

I’ve been binge-watching Black Mirror for the past days, and out of all the episodes I’ve watched, San Junipero stood out the most. I’m not going to run through the story here but let’s just say I loved its overall vibe. From the whole plot, color grading, and especially the soundtrack, it truly was heaven on earth.

Being inspired by that episode, I came up with this minimix featuring the tracks I’d play at the jukebox if I do get to live in that setting.¬†Tracks featured are:

  1. Futurecop!: Ain’t That Fresh (Waypointer Bootleg Remix)
  2. Tensnake: Fantasmma
  3. Roosevelt: Night Moves
  4. NVOY: Make You Mine
  5. Gigamesh: My Future is Your Future

Minimix 04 – Sunset Sessions

I’ve been trying out DJay Pro for a week now and I must say, it’s super newbie friendly! I feel there’s been quite an improvement from my past practice sessions and of course, I’ll continue working on this.

Here’s my 4th attempt:

Tracks featured:

  1. Karma Kid – Bird of Prey
  2. Cherokee feat. Darianna Everett – Don’t Matter
  3. LANY – ILYSB (Ferdinand Weber Remix)
  4. Hayden James – Something About You
  5. Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You
