Minimix 11 – Before Electro

Despite my indie music tendencies, I’m sure my influences are deeply rooted in 70s Disco and 80s New Wave. I would say this is an effect of listening to my dad’s record collection back when I was in grade school. I remember getting annoyed with him whenever he played Toto, Kalapana, Earth Wind & Fire, Bee Gees, and all those oldie jams. But deep inside, I was actually enjoying it.

This mix is inspired by that experience. I compiled some of the songs I’ve been listening to the past days that have that pre-electro/semi-disco vibe but were released in the last 3-5 years. Songs featured here are:

  1. Paris (Au Revoir Simone Remix): Friendly Fires
  2. Feel It: Karmon
  3. Folding Hills (feat. Xavier Dunn): FORD
  4. Control (feat. Caroline Smith): Gigamesh
  5. Party In Me: Yung Bae

A brand manager by day, a business student by night, and a music lover forever and ever. My day job fuels my passion for business, marketing, and advertising. As a bonus, it also pays for my insatiable thirst to discover and experience good music. As corny and cliché as it may sound, I believe music is the ultimate escape from reality. In my case, it's my way of keeping my creative juices flowing. It fuels my imagination, gives colour to my life, and keeps me in touch with my emotions -- all of which, I believe, are important for me to become a better marketer. This will be my own online space where I will share the things I care about -- brands and bands.
